What our Patients See

Sedation Care Services

Sedation is one of the ways we help ensure your child has a positive experience at the dentist.  We use several different types of sedation care, depending on the level of care needed and the comfort level of your child.  Using sedation care on children is a very specialized skill, and we make sure we’re always up-to-date on the latest techniques so our team can provide the safest level of care for your child.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective technique to reduce anxiety and decrease pain. The gas (a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen) is administered by inhaling through a flavored nasal mask in which your child will smell a sweet, pleasant aroma. Patients remain conscious and are able to talk throughout their visit, and the effects wear off almost immediately.

Conscious Oral Sedation

Sedation is most commonly used for young children who are unable to cope with the delivery of dental care, children who have a high level of anxiety and for some children with special needs. Procedures such as fillings, crowns, root canals, and extractions often require sedation.

General Anesthesia

General anesthesia is a management technique that uses medications to allow your child to go to sleep so they can receive dental treatment. We use this technique only on children who need severe dental work done, or those who are extremely uncooperative, fearful or anxious. We will always make sure to discuss in detail the risks and benefits before administering this service.
